Child Safety Standards

Last updated: October 28, 2026

Successful Mathematics is used by children, many of them under 13. This page sets out how the Services keep them safe and what we do when something goes wrong.

1. Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation

We do not allow child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sexual content involving minors, or any attempt to exploit a child, anywhere in the Services. When we find it or are told of it, we remove it, suspend the accounts involved, preserve what the law requires us to preserve, and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through its CyberTipline, as United States law requires. We cooperate with law enforcement.

2. Who can contact a pupil

  • Pupils cannot browse or search for strangers. Name search reaches only people a pupil can already see, such as classmates.
  • Friendships are between pupils only, and only pupils an adult is responsible for can have friends: a pupil taking a course, in a school class, or linked to a parent or teacher.
  • A pupil can add someone outside their class only with a friend code that person chose to share. Every friend-code lookup is recorded, and an account that tries too many codes is stopped.
  • When a child under 13, or in middle school, and someone from outside their school want to be friends, a parent or teacher linked to the child must approve it before the other pupil is even told. A child with no linked parent or teacher cannot make friends outside their school.
  • Even then, a child under 13 cannot exchange private messages with friends from outside their school. Private messages are open only with friends from their own school, their teachers, their linked parents and our staff.
  • Adults reach a pupil only through a relationship the Services know about: a teacher whose class the pupil joined, a parent the pupil is linked to, or an administrator of the pupil's own school.
  • A child under 13 who signed up on their own has messaging, posting and other social features switched off until a parent approves the account.
  • A teacher can switch off social features for their class with Focus Mode.

3. Names and photos

  • A pupil's real name is hidden from other users by default, and a display name is shown instead.
  • Children under 13 cannot upload a photo; they use an animal avatar.
  • Photos and images are shown only to people signed in to the Services, never on the open web, and hidden details such as the location a photo was taken are removed.

4. Filtering, reporting and moderation

  • Pupils' messages and Campus Hub posts are checked before they are sent. Profanity, slurs and sexual words are refused, including common disguised spellings, and so are email addresses and phone numbers, so pupils cannot swap contact details.
  • Anyone can mute or report a person from their messages. Reports go to our staff for review.
  • When several different people an account has written to report it, its messages are restricted automatically until staff review it. A restricted pupil can still message their teacher, parent or our staff, so a child who is being bullied can always ask for help.
  • Our staff can remove a photo, stop an account's messages or suspend it, and every staff action is recorded.

5. Report a concern

  • If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number first.
  • Inside the Services, use Report in Messages.
  • Anyone, signed in or not, can write to support@successfulmathematics.com with "Child safety" in the subject. These reports are read first.
  • You can also report child sexual exploitation directly to NCMEC at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.
