Scene by scene: what the video shows, then what the narrator says.

  1. 0:00

On screen: Title card: "Tutorial for IT staff. Setting up LTI 1.3 for your district. Connect your learning platform, step by step", beside a numbered list of the steps.

Narration: This tutorial shows district IT staff how to connect your learning platform to Successful Mathematics with LTI 1.3.

  2. 0:10

On screen: The District Console of Fernmoor Valley Schools (a demonstration district). The pointer clicks LTI Integrations and moves over the three cards: Launch & single sign-on, Grade passback (AGS) and Roster sync (NRPS).

Narration: Sign in with your district administrator account and open LTI Integrations. One connection does three things: students open Successful Mathematics from a course already signed in, grades go back to your gradebook, and each class joins the first time its teacher opens it.

  3. 0:29

On screen: "The quick way: one link", with the menu path for each platform. The pointer rests on the Create a registration link button.

Narration: The quick way is one link. Moodle 4, Canvas, D2L Brightspace and Sakai can register the tool themselves. Click Create a registration link, and paste it where your platform asks for a tool registration URL. Each link works once, for seven days.

  4. 0:51

On screen: The Canvas configuration URL, ending in /lti/canvas-config.json. The pointer clicks its Copy button.

Narration: In Canvas, you can also add a developer key by URL. Copy the configuration URL, then in Developer Keys, choose Enter URL and paste it.

  5. 1:05

On screen: "Microsoft sign-in for your whole district". The pointer clicks Copy beside the Microsoft approval link, then moves to the note that it goes to the Microsoft 365 administrator.

Narration: If your district uses Microsoft 365, copy the approval link and send it to your Microsoft 365 administrator. One approval lets everyone sign in with Microsoft, and it reads only each person's name and email address.

  6. 1:24

On screen: "Or by hand. Step 1: paste these into your LMS": the OIDC login initiation URL, redirect / target link URI, public keystore (JWKS) URL and deep linking URL, each with a Copy button.

Narration: To set it up by hand, add an LTI 1.3 tool in your platform and paste in these four addresses: the login initiation URL, the redirect URL, the public keyset URL, and the deep linking URL.

  7. 1:44

On screen: "Step 2: tell us about your LMS". The LMS platform is switched to Moodle, and its addresses appear; then back to Canvas, and an example Client ID and Deployment ID are typed in.

Narration: Then, in Step 2, choose your platform, and its addresses fill in for you. Paste the Client ID and the Deployment ID your platform gave the tool.

  8. 2:08

On screen: The platform is switched to Blackboard Learn: the Client ID fills in by itself, and an example Deployment ID is typed in.

Narration: For Blackboard Learn, the Client ID is already filled in: register the tool with that ID, and paste the Deployment ID Blackboard shows you.

  9. 2:26

On screen: The filled-in form, with the LMS key set, access token and authorization addresses. The pointer rests on Save LTI Configuration.

Narration: Click Save LTI Configuration. Until it is saved, every launch from your platform is refused, because each one is checked against your platform's keys.

  10. 2:38

On screen: Closing card: "Questions? Every page has help, and so does our support team:" and successfulmathematics.com/support, with a QR code.

Narration: Once it's saved, click Test LMS Connection, then open Successful Mathematics from a course in your platform to finish. If you need help, visit successfulmathematics.com/support.

One connection, three things

  • Single sign-onStudents and teachers open Successful Mathematics from a course, already signed in.
  • Grade passbackScores go back to your gradebook through Assignment and Grade Services (AGS).
  • Roster syncEach class joins the first time its teacher opens it, through Names and Role Provisioning (NRPS).

Moodle 4, Canvas, D2L Brightspace and Sakai can register the tool from a single link; any platform can be set up by hand. You will need a district administrator account: the settings are under LTI Integrations in the district console.
